CHOOSING ALLIANCES
Generally, the tradition is that it is the engaged couple who go around the jewelers together to choose their wedding rings. In general, this choice is made three or four months before the wedding date. It is of course not necessary to choose two identical rings. Very often, the bride will prefer a wedding band set with diamonds, or more simply a bangle or a half bangle in yellow or white gold, while the groom will choose a very sober wedding band, which may be a little larger than that of his fiancee.
The jeweler will ask you if you would like them engraved on the inside. Usually, we engrave the first name of the bride and groom and the date of the wedding. For instance :
Caroline and Laurent May 24, 2018
From Nicolas to Mathilde on 13.07.17
Nicolas to Mathilde on 06.30.18
But you can also have a more personal message engraved on it:
You and I forever
For all the life
For my star on 12.10.17
WHO SUPPORTS ALLIANCES?
It is the future groom who will be responsible for collecting the wedding rings from the jeweler. In terms of expenses, custom also dictates that it is also the fiancé who takes care of the wedding rings. He will keep them carefully until the day of the wedding. On D-Day, he can place them in his jacket pocket. We can only strongly advise you to entrust them to one of the witnesses to free your mind on this aspect, who will place them on a wedding ring cushion .to bring them to you when the time comes in the church, or to have them brought for the children of honor. Don't forget that you will have thousands of things to think about for the smooth running of your marriage and that the more you delegate certain tasks to your loved ones, the more relaxed and zen you will be. Also, be sure that your loved ones will be flattered to give you a hand. Whatever your choice, be sure not to forget the wedding rings: how many times have we seen the bride and groom leave for church without their wedding ring!
WHEN ARE THE ALLIANCES EXCHANGED?
If the wedding only takes place at the Town Hall, then it is the mayor who will exchange the rings. It is generally the witness of the bride and groom who will discreetly entrust them to him when he enters the Town Hall. Just after the exchange of consent, the bride and groom will pass the ring on their finger. If the marriage takes place in the church, it is to the priest that the witness will entrust the rings so that they may be blessed by God.
It is also customary to choose one of the children of honor to bring to the priest the wedding rings which will have been previously placed on a small wedding ring holder. Regarding the exchange of Alliances, it is the young groom who will be the first to put the ring on his fiancée's finger. Then it is her turn who will pass the ring to him. This moment is very moving, and it is of course a privileged moment to take pictures. In terms of music, we recommend air played on the flute or the organ.
